JOB DESCRIPTION
GIS Technology Liaison -
Map Competition Technical Assistant
Essential functions: This position focuses on assisting the team lead with answering and troubleshooting participant questions as they embark on the task of creating congressional maps using the decennial census data. Use your software or mapping skills and organizational abilities to fight for fair maps and representative government. This work-from-home contract will be for 20 hours per work through the end of 2021; pay range: $20-$25/hr.
Why a Redistricting Competition: State legislative and congressional districts have traditionally been drawn behind closed doors with few meaningful rules. The mapmaking this year will be different because of the reforms Ohio voters overwhelmingly approved in 2015 and 2018. The reforms focused on keeping communities together and increasing transparency, and included a provision to allow Ohioans to submit their own voting district maps. The Ohio Redistricting Competition is a way to foster mapmaking skills and encourage mapmaking and active engagement in the official mapmaking process.
The Ohio Redistricting Competition Technical Assistant will be responsible for helping Ohio Redistricting Competitors by providing technical assistance, information about best practices, and encouragement to these citizen mapmakers.
